Addressing the gathering, the Governor extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Karnataka on the occasion of Republic Day. He said January 26 is one of the most decisive days in the history of India, marking the end of centuries-old monarchy and colonial imperial rule, and the establishment of democracy through the adoption of the Constitution.
"The Constitution of a new India came into force on this day, proclaiming equality in social, economic, and political justice by discarding discriminatory colonial and archaic laws. Countless people made immense sacrifices and laid down their lives to shape our republican system. Let us respectfully remember them on this auspicious occasion," he said.
Recalling the struggles of India's freedom fighters, the Governor urged citizens to ensure that their sacrifices do not go in vain. Referring to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's vision, he highlighted the importance of political, economic, and social liberty, and emphasized that democracy must extend beyond political rights to become a social democracy rooted in liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Quoting Dr. Ambedkar, the Governor noted that liberty, equality, and fraternity are inseparable, and that the absence of any one of these values would defeat the very purpose of democracy.
The Governor stated that the Government of Karnataka has accorded priority to these constitutional principles. By listening to the voices of people from all regions and communities, the State is striving to provide just and inclusive solutions. He noted that priority is being given to neglected sections in government recruitment, commissions have been constituted to assess the conditions of various communities, and their recommendations are being implemented. Continuous efforts are also underway to address regional imbalances, fostering social and political dynamism in Karnataka.
Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar, Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, senior officials, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
