The walkathon brought together over 80+ students, faculty members, doctors, and hospital staff, all committed to spreading the message of eye donation. Participants carried placards with thought-provoking messages, advocating for the cause and encouraging the community to give the gift of sight to those in need.
Dr. Amod Nayak, Head of Clinical Services at Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, emphasized the pressing need for eye donations, stating, "There are thousands of people across the country waiting for corneal transplants. Unfortunately, the demand far exceeds the supply, largely due to a lack of awareness. Through this walkathon, we aim to educate the public and dispel misconceptions surrounding the eye donation process."
Dr. Srinivas L. Gombi, Dean of Academics, also stressed the importance of the initiative, saying, "Awareness is key to breaking down myths and inspiring more people to pledge their eyes. Through education and advocacy, we can close the gap and ensure that individuals in need of corneal transplants receive this life-changing treatment. I urge everyone to support this cause and join the mission to restore sight."
"Eye donation is a simple yet profound way to make a lasting impact. A single pair of donated eyes has the potential to restore vision to two individuals, offering them a fresh start in life. The success of today's walkathon reflects the increasing awareness of the importance of eye donation. By sharing the stories of corneal transplant recipients like Mrs. Sunita, we hope to inspire others to take action and contribute to this life-changing cause" said Dr Amod Nayak
Dr. Agarwals eye hospital has conducted 15+ awareness events during the fortnight with close to 2000 volunteers to help spread the message of Eye Donation. For any questions on eye donation or to pledge please visit https://www.dragarwal.com/eye-donation/ or call +919444444844
