Scheduled to be held from Monday, 23 April to Saturday, 5 May 2018, at the Attakkalari Studios, the annual summer dance camp will feature theme-based classes for young movers and budding dance enthusiasts across the two weeks of the course.
The highlight of the camp is its theme-based approach led and developed by our faculty members who are personally trained through our international dance education programme and experienced in teaching young people across age groups. Our faculties have performed in some of the most prestigious dance festivals across the world including the Venice Biennale, Bonn Biennale, Fabbrica Europa amongst others
The camp will comprise four training sessions for kids (5 to 8 years) tweens (9 to 12 years) whose classes begin from 9 AM to 12 PM and teens (13 to 18 years) and youth dancers (19 to 25 years) whose classes are from 2 PM to 5 PM respectively.
The summer dance camp ends with a gala showcase presented by participants for their families and close friends at an indoor venue ending with a certificate distribution ceremony.
An additional highlight this year is the introduction to innovative initiatives such as theatre games, storytelling with movements and film screenings.
The two-week programme for kids (age 5 to 8 years) is priced at INR 4000 for tweens (age 9 to 12 years) is INR 4500, teens (13 to 18 years) at INR 5000 and youth dancers (19 to 25 years) is INR 5000 respectively. Participants will be given an opportunity to reflect on their participation through an innovative evaluation technique and video blogs of each performance/session that is handed over to them.
Emphasising on the importance of movement arts in our lives, Jayachandran Palazhy, Artistic Director, Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts says “Research acknowledges the value of creativity, curiosity and imaginative play, particularly for young children, and the need for innovative, creative and critical thinking in successful societies of the future”.
