Bayer Zydus Pharma together with BSOG organise Face of Confidence – Walkathon to raise awareness for PCOS

To raise awareness on the increasing incidence of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) among women in India, Bayer Zydus Pharma in association with the Bangalore Society of Obsterics and Gynaecolgyorganised a Walkathon in Bangalore on April 01, 2018. PCOS is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels.The ‘Face of Confidence’ walkathon was meant to inform women about PCOS and help them restore their self esteem, to lead a confident life.


Gynaecologists from Bangalore city came together to walk for a common cause of spreading awareness on PCOS - a severe health condition which is increasingly becoming common among women in India. The 5 km walk intended to educate women and encourage them to make healthy lifestyle changes, with guidance and support from their Gynaecologists. 



Speaking about the walkathon, Manoj Saxena, Managing Director at Bayer Zydus Pharma said, “We are delighted to associate with the Bangalore Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecolgy to come forward and support this cause. Bayer has been a pioneer in women’s health and understands well how PCOS can affect the wellbeing of women. We want the women to make informed choices related to their health. Early diagnosis and treatment of PCOS will help in ensuring good health and restoring their self-esteem.The Face of Confidence walkathon aims at achieving this goal.”


Dr. Vidya Bhat, a prominent Gynaecologist who participated in the the walkathon shares, 'In India, PCOS affects I in 5 women of reproductive age and about 2 among 5 adolescent girls. It is a serious concern that in most PCOS cases the symptoms are ignored and left unchecked, causing serious health issues. Making healthy lifestyle changes including diet and excercise can certainly help manage Pcos better.



The ‘Face of Confidence’ walkathon was flagged of by Ms. Sanjjanaa Galrani, celebrity actress and yoga activist, known for her ideology of promoting good health and a balanced life for better living.


Speaking at the walkathon she said, “PCOS has become extremely prevalent among women in cities today and one of the most important reasons for this is the lifestyle that we lead. It is important that women are aware of PCOS and include regular exercise in their routine to improve health and the quality of life. Walking is one of the most recommended and easily doable workout that women can manage in their schedule.
