The recent attack on a Bengaluru Youth Vidwath by the son of an influential MLA N A Haris in UB City has dented the image of the city . With a sense of fear gripping the city, question being posed by many is whether Bengaluru continues to remain a city which has been internationally popular. One of the main reasons is the “No Respect for Law” in the minds of many people. “ Mohammed Haris Nalapad attack on Vidhwat in UB City has disturbed me, How a Youth was beaten mercilessly and none dared to stop. Are we making Bengaluru a city where such acts of rowdyism will go unchecked “asks B N S Reddy IPS (R) , former top cop of the city who has served Bengaluru City Police in various capacities as DCP, Jt Commissioner Of Police and as Addl Commissioner Of Police.
Launching a Citizens’ movement the Bengaluru “Nagarikara Surakshe Abhiyana” proposes to make Bengaluru citizens raise their voice against such incidents in the future. Citizens can join the “Bhayamukta Bengaluru” by giving a missed call to 9019551122. “ People complain about the role of Police. I feel Policing can be improved only when the people participate in it as responsible citizens. Citizens’ Safety should be the Key element and we want to raise our voice to make people participate so that they can alert. We want Bengalurians to join hands to fight such organized crimes” says BNS Reddy.
The “BhayaMukta Bengaluru” drive will work towards making a safer Bengaluru. “Parties come up with various promises in their manifesto but citizens want safety as a Big assurance. We will meet and connect with people , invite suggestions from Bengaluru people over the next few days and then draw up an action plan to instill confidence in the people. Apart from UB City incident there are many such that happen and no action gets taken”says Keiran Narayan Co-Convenor Bhayamukta Bengaluru
The Bhayamukta Bengaluru is getting a positive response from several like minded organizations across Bengaluru. “We approached several like minded organizations over the last week and they have expressed solidarity to the movement. We hope to come out with some suggestions/solutions in the coming weeks” says Balaji K , coordinator of the campaign
