Day two of the 13th Edition of National Congress of Indian Society of Hip & Knee Surgeons (ISHKS) saw the launch of the Indian Joint Registry by Corin Wilson, Acting Deputy British High Commissioner amidst 400 orthopaedic surgeons from across the globe. The launch of the Indian Joint Registry has put India amongst an elite league of countries to have such a comprehensive and sophisticated knowledge bank. The registry was built by ISHKS along with Northgate Public Services (NPS) – who also built the National Joint Registry (NJR) for the UK government.
The Indian Joint Registry (IJR) will serve as a highly secure platform to store data on hip and knee surgeries across India and will churn out focused reports for surgeons and patients to access, thereby helping make more informed choices and better implant selection as well as post-surgery monitoring.
Shared Dr. HPC Khincha, Organising Chairman, ISHKS 2019, “The Indian Joint Registry is an initiative run by ISHKS in the interests of patients. Thousands of hip and knee replacement procedures are undertaken in India every year, bringing great benefit to many patients. The success of these procedures has resulted in greater numbers being undertaken each year. IJR collects information on patients undergoing hip and knee replacement in India, to monitor performance of implants, to assure high standards of care, and to further research into best practice.”
Launching the Registry, Mr. Corin Wilson shared, “I am very happy to be part of this special occasion which is another example of continuous partnership between UK and India. In Bengaluru, IJR would play an important role in the opportunities for UK companies to explore new innovations in healthcare. We have made lot of plans for the coming year – more such partnerships with the Indian Medicine Manufacturers, Hospitals, Patients, Surgeons, which will help to record better statistics and development in medicine. I congratulate the IJR team for the new beginning and wish them all the best and we will support them continuously.”
The Indian Joint Registry will have a comprehensive Implant library with implant classification data with Surgeon feedback which is personalised on activity, casemix and outcomes. Every surgeon irrespective of ISHKS membership will be able to submit his data and will have access to his own data and the national data.
