The Federation of Obstetrical and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and Bangalore Society of Obstetrics & Gynecology (BSOG) organized a walkathon from Freedom Park to mark the 62nd All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. AICOG 2019 to be held on 8-12 January 2019 in Bengaluru. The logo of FOGSI 2019 was also unveiled during the event, where hundreds of doctors and nursing students participated.

Organizing Chairperson of AICOG 2019, Dr. Hema Divakar was overwhelmed by the response. She said the event marked the beginning of new thought and action. “Bringing about change in the mindset of the healthcare providers and seekers is the need of the hour. We have been on a journey to bring about a parivarthan or change in the society going beyond social complexities, economic barriers, mindset and difficulty in access to healthcare. AICOG 2019’s tagline ‘Women’s Health Nation’s Wealth’ symbolises the key role played by healthy women.”

Speaking about the organization’s initiatives for women and maternal health, President of FOGSI, Dr. Jaideep Malhotra said, “Today India has placed itself at such a position where the world now looks at us for many initiatives regarding women’s health. We all need to work hand in hand to make India’s dream of meeting the challenges in reproductive health and opportunities to provide flawless maternal and child health care.”

“The theme of FOGSI for 2019 is ‘We for Stree – Safer, Stronger, Smarter’. During the year, we will attempt to focus on academic, social and community health initiatives aimed at improving the profile of women in our country. The scientific programmes, involvement of key opinion leaders, FOGSI leadership and most importantly, the 35,000 strong FOGSI fraternity as delegates will help to spread this important message,” said President Elect of FOGSI 2019, Dr. Nandita Palshetkar while unveiling the logo for FOGSI 2019.

Highlighting the scientific sessions of AICOG, the Organising Secretary of AICOG 2019, Dr. Sheela Mane said, “AICOG 2019 will host scientific programmes on multiple disciplines of women’s health such as maternal fetal medicine, reproductive health, infertility and assisted reproduction techniques, gynecological endoscopy and gynecological oncology through didactic lectures, debates, interesting video sessions, engaging panel discussions with over 1000 presentations by the delegates.”

Unveiling the logo of FOGSI 2019 along with Dr. Nandita, youth icon, actress and ambassador of “Sweet Heart” initiative by ARTIST, Ms. Sreeleela said, “We have just had a walk from Freedom Park. But we still need to know how to free ourselves from the economic and educational issues of the society. It does not mean independence when we aimlessly rebel against everything, but by being interdependent in a synergetic and holistic way for a better world. We as Youth of the country should be the torchbearers to walk the talk in true sense to Make Women Safer, Stronger and Smarter.”

Malleshwaram MLA Ashwath Narayan, Basavanagudi MLA Ravi Subramanya, film director A P Arjun and actor Viraat also participated in the event to support the cause.
