The Purple Turtles at Indiranagar will host the Curious Crows Series, a sequence of panel discussions on Sustainable Design. The inaugural session will be held on 3rd October 2018 from 6pm to 7:30 pm.The first session will comprise experienced designers and academics who will throw light on ‘Why Thinking Fresh on sustainability is key to the challenges we face in our design practices today’. The session will be moderated by Jenny Pinto, Design Director at Oorja.
The session will comprise the following speakers :
Archana Shah:A graduate of NID, Ahmedabad, Archana founded Bandhej in 1985. Her clothing label continues to be influenced by traditional textiles and skills and over the years she has built not just a reputed brand but built a relationship with weavers and artisans that she says has mutually enriched their lives. She documented this journey in a book, Shifting sands: Kutch; a land in transition. Her engagement with sustainability encompasses people and traditional skills that she believes is an important aspect of sustainability.
Jaigopal Rao : Principal Designer and Partner of ‘Inspiration’.
Deeply Influenced by the works and personal interactions with architect Laurie Baker during his under-grad days, Jaigopal, an architect by training, chose the less traveled path of trying to evolve through actual field experience, an architecture and aesthetics based on the realities of India and make it the focus of Inspiration’s practice. He has held several positions in the Kerala government’s Urban planning dept, spoken at several international fora and won several national and international awards for his work on sustainable architecture.
Prashant Dhawan :
Prashant is the co-founder of Biomimicry India Lab and Studio as well as the Biomimicry India Network. A regular name on the lecture circuit, he has been actively involved in spreading the knowledge of Biomimicry in India. Here,he will demystify biomimicry for us and share his views about whether the natural world has vital clues and concepts that will help us adapt to change and sustain ourselves.
