A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and YSBC to formulate Jain University – Yunus Social Business Centre (JU-YSBC). It will be a part of Jain University Incubation Centre (JUincubator).
The activities planned by JU-YSBC include three main components and is expected to benefit 1 million beneficiaries in the next decade:
* Swayam – to select, train, and skill the unemployed in various sectors through sector-specific boot camps to promote self-employment.
* Nav-Udyog Entrepreneurs – to coach and finance entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that can utilize resources to solve social problems and promote social enterprises. This is done by equipping them with practical, innovative, and sustainable methods and required skills.
* Social Business Incubator –to incubate and support social business startups with awareness programs to grow into SME’s. This is done through a series of activities like mentoring and networking. The focus areas are Education, Agriculture, Healthcare, Energy, Water, and Financial Services.
Dr. Chenraj Roychand, President – Jain (Deemed-to-be University) presented these plans as an investment for the future of the nation. “We have a set of possible ideas we wish to apply at the school and university levels, to help boost the opportunities for budding entrepreneurs through this prestigious collaboration between Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC). “
Yunus Social Business (YSB) was co-founded by Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, who is also known as the Father of Micro-Finance. The vision of YSB is to familiarize new and young entrepreneurs with new concepts of social business. He also extended his joy in signing this MoU with the words, “This is the beginning of a relationship with the social business ideas and how to reach out to many, particularly the young people. Our goal is to ensure that people see the options available to them to build a future.”
