The top seeds, Faisal Qamar of Rajasthan and Humeria Shaikh of Telangana scripted contrasting victories to claim the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the KTPPA-AITA Rs. One lakh prize money tennis championship at the SAT Sports courts here on Saturday.  Faisal, ranked No27 in the country,   with an aggressive display, made a short work of the second seed, Ishaque Iqbal of West Bengal 6-3, 6-1 in the men’s singles final which lasted about 90 minutes and Humera  beat back late challenge from the unseeded  Pratyusha of AP  6-1, 7-5  in the women’s singles final, lasting about 110 minutes . The victory also fetched Faisal a purse of Rs.7800 and Humera received Rs.5200 as prize money.

Faisal, who returning to the circuit after a two month lay-off due to an injury, dominated the men’s final , belting his strong forehand   winners and  solid groundstrokes  .Setting a hot pace, he  took the led at 3-w  with a break  and raced past his  rival and wrapped up the first  set  at 6-3 .  Ishaque struggled   to get back into the fight in the second set but slumped with quite a few unforced errors as Faisal slammed his way to a 6-1   win and bagged the tie and title.

The women’s  final seemed a replica  of the men’s contest as Humera  with her strong baseline game,  surged to a 4-0  lead and   took the the first set at 6-1 .But  the spunky AP girl, Pratyusha  fought back  in the second set .  Training 0-2, she leveled at 2 all and went neck and neck with her rival. But Humera , unleashing  strong forehand winners, broke Prattyusha in the 11the  game and  held her own serve in the 12th game to claim the set and title.

Former Davis Cupper, Prahlad Srinath presided and gave away the prizes.
